Great spot! Cool vibes, dimly lit, was able to get a last minute res. Service was great! Everything was brought out quickly. I had a dirty martini this was great! The right amount of dirty, and the olives on this were fantastic. For an app we had the octopus tacos. I loved how light these were, the wasabi flavor was perfect! For my main I had a 5 piece spicy tuna and a 5 piece yellowtail. Both were great. The perfect size roll. The yellowtail was really refreshing!

Truly an amazing experience. The nice dark lighting makes dinner seem so intimate though this was a very popular, almost full place on a Monday night! Food was amazing, and drinks came out quickly. Our server was extremely attentive and kind.

Sushi-San delivers with a great open seating area with a nice mix of long 6-8 person benches, a few booths for couples, and small tables for smaller parties. We ordered 5 different sushi rolls and not one was a disappointment! Personal favorite was the spicy tuna followed closely by the mushroom roll. This is in the heart of the River North area of downtown Chicago so parking will be a challenge. Several public ramps nearby which I would recommend. Tip - if you're considering during busy lunch or dinner times, make a reservation! It gets really busy and even with all the great seating, can get a bit tight.

I had sushi for the first time in Greenwich Village, in 1983. In these 41 years on this planet, Sushi-San is the best sushi I have ever come across in any city, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Boston, Houston, Atlanta, Madison . . . (I didn't try the sushi in Paris). The sushi at Willis and at Grand are both equally far beyond good. And the security guard at Grand was so kind as to watch my 1965 green English racing bicycle for me, when I was inside. 7 stars for this place.

I came here lunch once upon a time and thought it was mid... but last week's dinner really surprised me. We made reservations here and showed up early (my fault). Definitely bustling for happy hour. Noise is doable but on the louder end if you want something more intimate. A lot of menu items appealed to my boyfriend and I. But some of my favorites: the otoro caviar nigiri, the hamachi crudo, Okinawa sugar pie and the Japanese eggplant tempura. The first two listed were specials. The tempura had a slightly sweet sauce that was the perfect touch with the crispness. I could've ate a whole bowl. The hamachi crudo was so light, citrusy, a bit of sweet and salty. The Okinawa sugar pie was the way to go. Not overly sweet which makes you wanting more. The drinks were pretty boozy and I'd just stick with water.

Good high quality sushi, great ambiance, and plenty of seating with minimal wait. Sushi-San checked off all my boxes for a great sit-down sushi spot. The sushi rolls had thick fresh cuts of fish and were balanced well with the other ingredients. For all of the rolls I felt like the fish was the centerpiece, never masked by the other ingredients. The indoor area had a lively ambiance, subtle lighting, and plenty of seating. Even at dinner time on a Monday, I was able to get in and be seated within 15 min. The food took a bit longer to come out, but that was expected for the peak dinner rush. Overall great spot and would highly recommend.

Sushi-San is a solid Japanese restaurant/bar! Specializing in fresh sashimi, sharing plates and fun Japanese-inspired cocktails, I love that this spot has an easy going vibe with great food and drinks. My hubby came here for lunch and another time for dinner and both times, we enjoyed the food and received good service. Great place to meet friends or for a cozy date night spot. Their nigiri sushi is delicious, especially their scalp and toro. Super buttery and fresh. I also tried their cilantro margarita and it was really nice. Definitely check them out. We'll be back when we're in the Chicago area again!
